Have a look at the following idioms – can you choose the correct answer?
During this English Lunch, we firstly discussed these five questions and (in most cases) managed to agree on the right answer! It was just the last question (5) which lead to some of us thinking maybe it would be a cool name for an earring business! (?)
- Would Going up in the world be a better name for a mountain-climbing organisation or a furniture business?
- Would Knock yourself into shape be a better slogan for dance classes or a boxing club?
- Would Let things run their course be advising someone to act quickly or to be patient?
- If a headline mentioned a Debt of honour, would it be suggesting that the law or the person’s conscience should be encouraging them to pay something back?
- Would This’ll make you prick your ears up be a better slogan for a hi-fi company or an earring business?
We also debated the following topics. The last question (perfect body or really intelligent) was discussed at length – one of us wondered why he couldn’t have both!
- Homework is good for all ages? Agree or disagree?
- Do men or women make the best teacher?
- Do you have any house rules for Smart phones?
- Would you rather have a perfect body or be really intelligent?
What do you think??
