… continuing on our theme of the greatest Briton, today we had two (!) nominations both for the British comedian Rowan Atkinson.
Rowan Atkinson – probably most famous for the role of Mr Bean – has been making people laugh for over 40 years and is one of the greatest British and world comedians, loved in over 200 countries.
On YouGov 99% of those questioned know of him, 75% like him and he is even rated 8th in the all-time list for actors.
Over the years and in addition to his acting he has done lots of work for charity, receiving the “Commander of the Order of the British Empire” (CBE) in 2013 for his services to drama and charity.
In the UK he initially became known as part of the ‘Not the Nine O’ Clock’ comedy team. But it was as part of the 4-Part “Black-Adder” series from 1983 to 1989 that he really became nationally famous.

Since then he been a part of many other TV and film projects Johnny English but none of them have surpassed Mr Bean – his portrayal this legendary character established him as a global icon.
Rowan Aktinson has always been somewhat politically active, criticising for example the cancel culture, saying “what we have now is the digital equivalent of the medieval mob, roaming the streets looking for someone to burn.” (The Times)
If would also be great if today’s presenters could add their presentations and links in the comments section below – that way we can share our nominations with the rest of the English-Please community!
Look forward to hearing / seeing you next week!!
