“Growing up bilingually, I was lucky enough to also go to school in Bedford, England. Life in the classroom at Bedford School was of course very different to what we are used to over here. When it comes to learning English in Germany, lessons are not much fun at all! The focus is mainly on grammar, tenses and structure, rarely on speaking and being able to communicate with others – that’s why many students lose confidence and end up being nervous when speaking and afraid of making mistakes.
To me, learning English should really be all about understanding, being understood and having fun“ – Luis
We think we can make learning English more fun. Speaking regularly with a native speaker will not only improve your English, but also boost your confidence.
“Being bilingual and also studying the English language at university (TU Braunschweig) has given me a completely new understanding of the beneficial impact speaking more than one language can have on everyday life. Studies show that learning a second language at an early age can also improve problem-solving, critical-thinking and listening skills. It can also boost your memory and improve the ability to multitask and to concentrate – so not just something to use on holiday!” – Marie
That’s why at EnglishPlease! we’re especially passionate about making language learning accessible and fun for all ages and professions.
“In a business meeting – especially in Germany – it’s of huge advantage if you’re a confident speaker. I have seen experienced managers, who – when confronted with having to speak English – can become rattled and look around for someone to help, making them appear suddenly much less competent. In interview situations, candidates can be doing great in German and then find themselves struggling to find the right word when switching to English, significantly impacting their job chances” – Dean.
There are more and more situations in which speaking and being understood in English is becoming more and more important.
We think we can help you to be better prepared for lots of different business situations.
“There is a constantly increasing flood of media options you can use should you want to improve your English. The problem is orientation – sifting through this overabundance to find what’s right for you can end up being quite frustrating. Where to start? What to choose? How will I be able to see the forest for all the trees?” – Stephanie.
‘English Lunch’ kicked off in 2017 and has since become a regular online weekly event. After being asked if we can help with different situations and taking into account the fact that English has become such an important part of all our daily lives, we have decided to start EnglishPlease!
