ELunch 22.09 – The Queens death and the monarchy

English Lunch is back after the holiday season and there’s so much to talk about!
Following the recent death of the Queen, there has really only been one topic in the UK over the last few weeks so I decided to ask our lunchers what they think about it all.
Below you will find some of my questions and a summary of the responses…

How much of the Queens funeral did you watch the funeral on TV?
Most only watched the standard German news channels – so we don’t seem to have really big fans of the royal family!

Would you have joined the queue/line to pay your respects?
Everyone can understand the need for lots of people to pay their respect, though none of us would have wanted to wait in line for 12 hours – even if David Beckham was standing next to us!

What happens now with the monarchy?
Most of us agreed that the monarchy needs to change over the coming years. Views ranged from it being very expensive for the UK to sympathy for members of the royal family for being ‘born into the job’ and having no choice about whether you become King or not

What do you think of Charles?
Most of the lunchers had a positive view of Charles, though some were not too sure and are interested to see what he will do or say now that he is King!

Feel free to comment and let us know what you think!

Hope you can join us next week!
