A very British Christmas (Lunch!)

Ever wondered what a typical British Christmas looks (and feels) like?

Preparations / run-up to Christmas
Put lights up outside the house and get the decorations up inside the house – perhaps some holly, Ivy and Mistletoe?
Buy and send lots of Christmas Cards and get the kids to write their letters to Santa.
Buy and decorate the Christmas about 1-2 Weeks before Christmas day.
Put up your advent calendar (preferably with chocolate!).

Note that there is no “Nicolaus day” on the 6th December

Things to do before Christmas
Maybe go to Oxford Street to watch the big ‘switch on’ (November)
Get involved in the local schools perform Nativity Play.
Book tickets to watch some Carol singers or the local pantomime show (Cinderella?).
Maybe go to the local church for some Carols and that Christmassy feeling?
The local carol singers might also knock at the house door and sing (also collecting money for charities).
Learn to sing ’12 days of Christmas’ 🙂

On Christmas Eve
When the children are asleep, finish wrapping the presents and put them under the tree or maybe into socks hanging from the fireplace if you have one (Father Christmas has to climb down the chimney!)
It needs to look like Santa has been so… put out the sherry and a mince pie, also carrots for the reindeer.
Maybe watch the Service of Nine Lessons and Carols on BBC which is broadcast live from the chapel of King’s College, Cambridge.
Don’t be late going to bed because the kids will be up early as soon as they know that ‘he’s been’!

Christmas Day
Children will wake you up early with shouts of “He’s been” and “Merry Christmas!!”

Get the Turkey in the oven nice and early  – the family will be coming between 1 and 2PM.
Visit the local pub (wearing your new Christmas jumber) for a ‘quick one’ (if you’re lucky).
Eat after the Queen’s speech at 3PM!!
Christmas Lunch with roast turkey, roast vegetables and ‘all the trimmings’ – carrots, peas, parsnips, brussels and stuffing and sometimes bacon and sausages.

Don’t forget the cranberry sauce and maybe some bread sauce.
Dinner table should be decorated with a Christmas Cracker for each person.

Fall asleep in front of the TV after eating your Christmas pudding.

Done!
